XXXL
So, I did infact wander around a bit by myself after school yesterday. On the walk home I stopped at some strip mall-like clothing stores and looked around. I was curious about the shoes and to see what size would fit me (if any). The shoes I saw were sized in S, M, L, LL, and… 3L, which was what fit me. Not many shoes come in that size, which is a shame cause they have really cute shoes here that are cheap. Anyway, I bought a towel cause I forgot to bring one from home. Then I ran into Greg, a guy from Walla Walla, Washington who’s also an art major, and we got lost. He thought I knew where I was going, and was following me, but I didn’t know. We ran into a tiny liquor store though, and looked around inside. Funny things. When I’m in a store like that here, where all labels are in Japanese, it would be like going into a grocery store at home, and nothing had labels at all. You just have to guess what things are. And when there is a bit of English, it’s really funny. I picked up a can of orange juice that said “This juice is made from excellent oranges and you should drink it everyday for your health” on it.
After we found our way back to the Seminar Houses (dorms), I just relaxed in my room for a bit… did some work on picking classes and stuff. Then later on a group of us walked about 30 min. to find a conveyor belt sushi place that we’d heard about. It was really cool. I took pictures that I will post later. I had all the sushi I’d want and it cost only about 6.50 Canadian. All restaurants so far have had free green tea so I rarely even pay for drinks. Oh, and almost all the “sushi” here is a ball of rice with something on top of it like raw fish, egg, eggplant, eel, octopus, etc. Not many rolls at those places.
I just registered for classes and things turned out alright, but I had to makes changes to my original plan. Turned out that 3 of the classes I wanted to take were at the same time, so I could only pick one of them. This is what I am taking: Ceramics, Spoken Japanese, Japanese Culture and Everyday Life, Japan and Globalization, and Japanese Culture as Expressed in Architecture.
I wanted to take ALL the classes offered here. They seem really good. There was an info session yesterday where each prof talked about the classes they teach. There’s one prof that used to do marketing for Apple that teaches business classes here. Almost made me want to take a business class. Also, a lot of classes have field trips that anyone can go on. One has a trip to Hiroshima and a Japanese prison, and another one has a bike trip and a hike to important places. I think I’ll do some of those.
Anyway, I’m gonna go get a coffee and walk around. Later.

We’re relly excited to be sharing your experience with you through your blog. Got to love a brother who can create neat Xmas presents. Will most of your classes be conducted in English? The classes you chose seem really interesting, by title anyway. Taking field trips sounds great. How was the coffee. We’ll “talk” soon.
